CBT Proud: Making Space

An annual celebration of the LGBTQ+ community within the industry and beyond

Every June, CBT Architects ‘ internal pride committee hosts a monthlong, firmwide event that further promotes equity and honors Pride Month. 2024’s theme, Making Space, explored the places we foster inclusivity—both physically and figuratively. These ideas were further examined through four subcategories: Family/Home, Policy, Workplace, and Community.

As one of CBT’s in-house graphic designers and a member of CBT Proud, I created the initiative’s visual identity and all assets—from a physical installation to digital graphics.

Exhibition and Installation

Upon entering the lobby, CBT employees and visitors were greeted with an archway of bold, interlocking boards of various sizes and bright colors, signifying the diversity and connection within the LGBTQ+ community. The goal of structure’s size was to take up space and invite spectators to interact with it. Quasi-customized geometric typography accentuated the Pride flag colors in use. Several boards were dedicated to the four subcategories while others indicated the month’s programming, and charities CBT Proud previously donated to.

Digital invitations were sent out to internal staff for Pride Month events. They extended the branding and focused on the subcategory they fell into.

In addition to my design contributions, I also organized two guest speaker events for all CBTers to attend: Becoming a Man playwright P. Carl and Boston IVF fertility specialist Dr. Sara Arian.

Making Space was an exhibition and celebration at CBT Architects in Boston’s Charlestown throughout June 2024.
